Fire Hazard

Yesterday was a day of disappointment, deep frustrations and then great sadness. After working into the evening I arrived at the station in Shipley only to find that no trains were running. I just wanted to get home and felt very annoyed but that was soon put in perspective when I was told that someone had been hit by a train just beyond the station. I just found out that a sixteen year old boy had been killed. Awful.

Today has been far better. Still plenty of frustration but I ended the day getting some problems solved, and difficult ones at that. I work so much more efficiently when I have something challenging to get my teeth into!

At lunchtime I struck up a conversation with Gavinder here. He is the sweetest guy, someone with a sense of calm and a caring for other people that just makes you feel so much better about life. I first caught sight of him fiddling with his beard before lighting up. When I went across and quizzed him he said that his father was always going on at him about keeping his beard tidy (Seikhs never cut their hair) in case he set fire to it. I guess that would be some kind of religious blasphemy as well as being extremely dangerous. He said it had never happened but he wasn't taking any chances!
