Loi Krathong

We sat at a great place called street pizza and ate overlooking the parade. As the big parade floats came past I got my camera to discover it didn't have a memory card in so this is almost the only photo I took as I was so irritated with myself having to cart my SLR around which was useless.

Loi Krathong is about respecting water spirits and small boats with candles and incense are floated on water which are traditionally made from plants or bread. I wonder what the water spirits think about the river being polluted by the styrofoam ones however! Modern Loi Krathong also has elements of Yi Peng with sky lanterns being released with wishes and fireworks. Massive boxes of fireworks that people set off wherever they fancy along with handheld varieties. I left once I was pretty sure my hearing (and nerves!)wouldn't survive much more of an onslaught down by the river!
