A Grand Performance

An evening visit to the Usher Hall to see the fabulous Midlothian Schools Festival of Music, and escorted by the teenager. Must admit, I was wishing he was on stage, as he was a couple of years ago. Maybe next year, but he needs to decide between band practice and ski race training. It's a tough life.
The orchestras, choirs and bands gave an excellent performance and the finale was a WW1 tribute, Hearts of Glory and then ... all together now ... 'It's a long way to Tipperary ..'

The Usher Hall is celebrating 100 years since its completion, and in that year was also host to a rally to recruit for the 16th battalion of the Royal Scots (McCrae's). My program tells me this was largely composed of professional and amateur sportsmen and supporters. "McCraes" was the first of the so- called 'footballers' battalions to be raised during the war.
