Central Station
Deep underneath Glasgow's Central Station the Victorian platforms are still there. Even when they were in use these platforms, lit by gas lamps, were dark places and no doubt steam from the trains would add to the lack of visibility. No surprise then that pickpockets hid behind these pillars in the gloom, slipping out with sharp knives to cut free any booty they had their eyes on. Ladies bags were common targets.
Central Station are now doing tours which include the roof and areas below the platforms..
