Pozole Thursday

A traditional pre-Columbian soup or stew, pozole has occupied a place at the Mexican table since the time of the Aztecs. In the state of Guerrero, Thursday is the day to consume this hominy-based dish. I have never particularly cared for pozole as it is prepared here, though I admit to liking a version we once had in Pátzcuaro, so we don't normally partake in pozole Thursday. Our friend, however, insisted he knew of a great pozole place that is always packed because it is reputed to have the best in town. How could we pass up the opportunity to try the "best" pozole in all of Zihua. The restaurant was a simple, small door in a nondescript neighborhood, but opened up into the large dining space shown here once you descended the stairs and yes, it was jammed with Mexicans enjoying their bowls of pozole. While I won't be visiting this place every Thursday, I certainly plan to return in the not too distant future because it truly is the best we have found so far.
