Panama Canal
Today we rented a car and drove to the Panamá Canal and into the históric old town in Panama city. It was interesting to learn about Panama's history. The canal is such a defining aspect of the country and a pretty incredible engineering feat, however the independence of Panama from Colombia and the whole economic and social makeup of the country has everything to do with American interests. The Americans controlled the canal up until about 10 years ago and Panama uses dollars.
Panama city is pretty incredible with is historic part framed by these huge sky scrappers. The old town reminds me of Havana. Old colonial buildings, some restored into boutique hotels and others still looking run down but beautiful nevertheless.
There is a very interesting biodiversity museum, like Colombia, Panama is rich in natural biodiversity.
