Transiting the Panama Canal

Panama Canal -- What an exciting day! We have just passed through the Gatun Locks, leaving the Atlantic Ocean behind us, and now we are crossing Gatun Lake. A couple of hours from now, we will then pass through two more sets of locks before entering the Pacific Ocean. What an incredible marvel of engineering!

The container ship Singapore Express is ahead of us in line. You can see how little room there is on either side of the ship. The big orange ship coming toward us was sharing lock space with a very small sailboat -- I'm sure the people on board that yacht were more than a little intimidated!

Horrible weather today. Very rainy. But it's not cold!
