Fledgling
An exciting moment today. I saw my first fantail fledglings.
I was at a friend's motorhome park taking some photos around the park for her website. We went down to one of the 3 swimming holes on the property and on the way back up I spotted 3 fantails - Mum and two youngsters. I think she was teaching them how to catch sandflies.
I had my 15-85 lens on, and didn't have my camera bag with me. I snapped off some shots, not expecting to get anything worth keeping, and I'll be the first to admit that this is as grainy as hell - a combination of the wrong light in the bush and the wrong lens (therefore having to crop really heavily). BUT it's still a young fantail - the wee grey ruff around the back of his neck shows that he still has some of his baby feathers.
They were just so gorgeous. I was expecting visitors at home so I didn't have time to go back with a better lens, which was a pity. I will be definitely trying to find the time to go back tomorrow with the right gear - mind you the chances of them being there again aren't great.
At least I've managed some pretty bokeh.
