Its that time of year again

Its heading towards Christmas, but traditions are rather different here in the Netherlands compared to UK. Sint (Santa Claus) does not come down the chimney but arrives in a boat from Spain on the 5 / 6th December with presents for the children, accompanied by his assistant Black Piet. Its common to see both children and adults " blacked up " to play the role of Piet.

Every year there is a controversy over this - Tradition versus political correctness or actually simple respect for people of other creeds and colours

Following a court ruling earlier this year where it was decided that Black Piet is offensive, many municipalities have changed their plans and displays, but many people see this as a harmless tradition The controversy is far from over yet
