Easthorpe Hall
Easthorpe Hall Stud is now owned by the Easterby family who have a number of racehorses in the Malton area. Back in the 1830's Easthorpe Hall was owned by Charles Smithson, a Solicitor whose office was in Chancery lane, Malton and who was a close friend of Charles Dickens, the acclaimed author. Dickens made several visits to Easthorpe. Smithson eventually sold Easthorpe and moved to Abbey House in Old Malton. Sadly the house burned to the ground in the late 1960's and all that remains is part of the stable block. This photograph shows one of the columns at the entrance to the estate. It is on the road from Malton to Coneysthorpe and Castle Howard.
