Angels, punks and raging queens

I have rarely been prouder of what we do at the Dunblane Centre.

Set up to provide a youth, family, sports and leisure hub for the community, we have over the years established a thriving theatrical output, primarily for youth drama.

However our theatrical producer/director pushes the boundaries now and again, and when she proposed staging the adult production about AIDS victims Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens I wasn't sure how such an emotionally powerful, challenging topic would go down in our little backwater.

It was sensational. Tonight it was also a sell out, and people travelled a fair distance to see the show, which isn't a common production. It's easy enough to make your audience sad and teary when your performers are all characters who are telling you their story about how they came to die from AIDS. It's not to easy to make them laugh - albeit wryly - and really connect, empathise and ultimately feel strangely uplifted.

So very proud of everybody who made it happen.
