Remembrance Sunday

Ecumenical Remembrance Service this morning. Our screen is the village war memorial, look on large and you will see the dates. The church was packed with 350 people, including civic dignitaries. The brass band led the parade along the street first, from the village hall.

Thanks to Beewriter, PaulaJ and BikerBear who allowed me to use some of their photos from their visits to the London poppies, which I combined in a video with my photos of our own poppy display. People were very moved.

The church is full of poppies and no one picture could do it justice. Even these four don't show the full extent as there are displays on every windowsill and at the back.

This year is more poignant with the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One. We remember those killed in both wars, as well as conflict since. We remember too those injured and all the innocent victims. We pray for peace.

I have laid a virtual poppy on my Great-uncle's grave, using the Every Man Remembered website. He died on 10th June 1918, aged 26.
