Worm Or Snake?

I found this shrivelled up creature among some cushions under the pool table in the basement today. Dehydrated it's 4" long, I'm glad I never saw it alive!

It looks segmented rather than scaly, so I'm opting for worm rather than snake, for my own peace of mind!
