The Candlewick Correlation

I slept under this candlewick bedspread. In my pre duvet childhood, these were de rigeur, inescapable. Now they're nearly an extinct species. Trawling the depths of eBay brings up "vintage" and "retro" suggestions. The colour of this specimen says 1970s. My heart says that there's a strong correlation between the decline of the candlewick bedspread and the decay of our society. However, as I'm spending most of this week trying to persuade students:
