Weaving Artistry
The indigenous people of southern Mexico and Guatemala are particularly well known for their stunning textiles. Weaving with backstrap looms is most common with the women, while large wooden looms are more common with men.
This is a detail of a bag woven in Xochistlahuaca, Guerrero. The brown background is a naturally colored cotton called coyuche, which the people grow and spin by hand. From this photo, it's very difficult to get the concept of how small the threads are, but these women are famous for the fineness of their weaving.
