Nature's pincushions

A day of remembrance and not a poppy to be found but my thoughts run to my grandmother and her 3 daughters whose husband and father was amongst those who landed at Gallipoli and survived even gassing ,though with compromised respiratory system and died of pneumonia just before penicillin was discovered, when my mother was just twelve.
My grandmother was fond of this pretty mauve and was adept with needle and thread...a qualified milliner and a pianist for the silent movies in Sydney before she married. She and my mother such strong and happy influences in the path my life has taken...singing and stitching and currently turning out collections of embroidered pincushions .
We remember those who battled in theatres of war and those who held the fort at home.
