Aviation Meeting Monument

For a week in August 1910, the Lanark Racecourse played host to the first Scottish International Aviation Meeting. Twenty aviators from ten nations including Peru, the USA and across Europe came to compete in flying competitions, watched by nearby quarter of a million people.

A hundred years on, this statue was erected near Lanark Loch to mark the centenary of that event. I drive past it at least once a week, but finally got around to capturing the monument today. The sepia tint seemed to reflect the period being celebrated.
