Curling

We had a road trip to Kent, spending the morning wandering round Whitstable in the sunshine. We seemed to spend most of our time looking for somewhere big enough to seat us all for lunch, and came up trumps with a sandwich shop/fish n chips/pub beer garden solution. Whitstable is lovely, I could have spent much longer having a nose around. However, the curling rink was calling, so we drove into the countryside, onto an unlikely looking farm, where the rink hides in a corrugated iron shed. It's the only competitive rink in the south of the UK and is used by the pros, who were training when we arrived. We had a two hour slot, and were able to squeeze in five matches. It was such great fun! Our fears of slipping over quickly went as the shoes are link magic and were soon running over the ice, sweeping the stone along. The trickiest part was figuring out how much oomph to put behind each stone as the distances it would reach seemed to change each time. I'd definitely go again, and it was great to try yet another sport for our Challenge.
We were recommended a brilliant local pub for some dinner after the match, which was perfect before a wet and windy drive home, spotting fireworks along the way.
