Turtle Power

Apologies to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It seems whenever a group of people gather on Playa La Ropa around sunset they are there to release turtles into the bay. We have seen a number of these gatherings in the past month and tonight was no exception. What was an exception was the size of the group, much smaller than usual - less than 20, and the fact that we arrived just as the released turtles were reaching the water. Of course, that meant I had to try for some photos of the tiny turtles struggling against the mighty waves. My wife decided she liked this one the best because of the sheen on the sand and the sense of adventure this little guy conveys as he heads into the big waves ahead. One of these days I hope to be able to photograph one of these as they return to the beach to lay their eggs and start the process all over again.
