Larson's Phase 2 - High flows
A rewarding part about working in the PacNW is seeing projects getting tested soon after construction. This fall has brought lots of rain to the PacNW, resulting in some high flows all across Puget Sound. The South Fork Nooksack got just over 12,000-cfs which is a little larger than the 2-yr peak storm so with that we took a day to go investigate how this summer's constructed logjams were doing. Overall the project elements performed great during the high flows with some new wood racked in front of the structures, new side channels developing and scour pools forming on logjams located within the main channel. We did have one logjam that did not fair as well and will need to determine what happened and consider modifications for next year's construction.
Let's hope things continue to go well this next month and over the winter...
