Give Peace A Chance
The armistice was signed this day ninety six years ago, in France bringing to an end hostilities on the Western front. A hundred years ago the First World War , which we commemorated with all those poppies at the Tower, had only just started. All those deaths hadn't happened yet.
Those young boys going off to war never knew that all these years later we would be laying wreaths of poppies at memorials carrying their names in every community in this country and many others, and observing two minutes silence, in their memory and those killed in later conflicts.
This is the freshly placed wreaths at Alcester's memorial in the Church yard in the town.
