What is that?

Collected the pendant light shades from John Lewis couldn't believe how heavy they were. Took this one out of the box to have a look and it was wrapped in polystyrene and looking like this. It would have taken ages to take all this extra packaging off so have left it to do at the house on Thursday, I think each individual glass is wrapped !! Hope they look nice in my living room.
Looks like someone's head getting a perm to me!!
