Commuting Home

Work is a real grind at the moment. Just too much coming all at once and I seem to be spending an unhealthy amount of time simply trying to work out what to do next. This afternoon I got stuck on a problem raised by a client and I could not work out what the hell was going on. It made no sense to me at all. I know now when I get to that point where I'm going to be spending hours hitting my head against a brick wall - so rather than getting sucked into all that head pain I made a spontaneous decision to escape and watch a movie.

I caught the train to Bradford (joining the zoned out evening commuters returning home from Leeds) and saw Leviathan, a Russian film about which I'd heard great things. And the reviews were not wrong. It truly is a great film, incredibly powerful and beautifully shot in all its bleakness. I see a film like this and realise just how much the major film studios have sold out, and are selling us short into the bargain. This is epic cinema on a human scale. Sadly, I counted just seven people in the audience. Go see it if you can.

I tried my hand at a bit more candid street (and train) photography from the hip today. I must be improving in confidence and skill because the results were pretty good. It has been really hard to choose which to post. In the end I kept coming back to this one, which somehow sums up the frenetic nature of the day.

Now I am the one zoned out.
