Garmony Hydro

After dropping a friend off at Craignure ferry I stopped at Garmony to look for a heron or goose or anything. The only birds I spotted were a pair of hoodies and a dipper, the latter too far from the camera. When looking around with the camera the Hydro work came into view, it was impressive to see and the following information was found on line. (In recent years we haven't taken part in local projects and very out of touch, perhaps once the travel bug wears off we will start again).

From the internet:
Green Energy Mull is a company currently run by a team of local people, who have been working hard to realise the Garmony Hydro project. Garmony Hydro will be a 400kw hydroelectric scheme, using a Pelton or similar turbine, on the Allt Achadh na Moine burn, near Garmony on the Isle of Mull. The group has been working with the Forestry Commission Scotland, Community Energy Scotland, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency and Argyll and Bute Council to develop a scheme which will generate green electricity over at least 40 years and support local community benefit projects.

Garmony Hydro is a private equity scheme with residents and friends of the island, well-wishers and ethical investors buying shares in its successful flotation. Local residents provided 60% of the capital.
