Remembrance
Rudi and I went to the Newhaven Remembrance day service at the school today.
It was so moving, in fact I found it hard to hold myself together. Watching the old men wipe their eyes as a pupil played the Last Post on the violin and the P7 choir sing Silent Night in English and German.
Boats on the Forth sounded their horns at 11.00 and again after the silence. I had no idea they did that.
Inside the school the pupils had created an Art project around the fact that the villagers of Newhaven took in injured German soldiers and cared for them.
A lady had brought in a postcard her father had received from his father from the Front, embroidered on the card 'To my own dear boy'.
I am an emotional person at the best of times but I was moved by the whole occasion. I had a little weep for all the poor people who have lost their lives in conflict and the families left behind.
