A Great Achievement

This is my friend Bruce. At age seventy six he has just completed writing and publishing a children's book . The book, as I mentioned yesterday, is called Ka the Falcon. It is a wonderful story, " told through the eyes of Ka, a New Zealand falcon, of the formation and settlement of New Zealand, and in particular the Coromandel Peninsula and Tairua..." The book is intended for 8 to 10 year olds but will definitely be enjoyed by adults and teenagers. By grandsons thought it was" really COOL!"
I have known Bruce since the 1960's when he came to the suburb in Auckland where I lived, as a young curate of the Anglican church. He began a youth group which attracted many members of my Year 8 class. (then called Form 2) He was such great fun and had an amazing way of communicating with young people. After three years in Pakuranga he was transferred to Wellington and from there to the UK to work as an Industrial chaplain. After returning to NZ he continued to work as a Parish Vicar and after a while he was elected as Bishop for the Auckland diocese. Bruce retired with his wife Pat to Tairua about the same time my daughter and family went to live there in the early 2000's. So it was wonderful to re-connect with such an amazing old friend after all that time. My daughter and Bruce have also become friends as they both share a love of books and writing. It was a proud moment yesterday at the library where Emma is the librarian, when she introduced Bruce to a large gathering for his book launch.
