Grotesque masks and the Griffin based on decorative motifs used in ornamental and architectural design.
These mask forms originated in ancient Greek theatre & are often used in architecture for the decoration of window and door keystones.
The Griffin is the union of a lion's body with the head & wings of an eagle. It is associated with fire and traditionally often found on candelabra decoration & friezes.
