Learning day by day

"Piece of Quiet"

I have had a productive day, mostly throwing stuff out or recycling stuff. Carys had her oldest friend round for tea after school. It was another easy play date, I didn't really know they were there. Carys is happy now she has had her three best friends round in three days.

Will has had some bad news today. He is not going to a friends party tomorrow. He was on his last warning on Wednesday, which he used up(nothing major, but ongoing little things). He was told however that he could earn the right to go to the party back with good behaviour from then until bedtime tonight. This did not happen so no party tomorrow. I feel like a bad Mummy as he cried so much, but he had plenty of chances to sort it out and didn't take them.

I don't usually do the 'consequences' thing as I prefer to reason with Carys and Will and get them onside because they want to do the right thing, but something had to give this week. We have had a long chat and it seems to have sunk in that he hasn't been very nice this week, he had his chance to redeem himself but he didn't take it so he only has himself to blame. Hopefully he will remember that and we will have an easier weekend.

Carys was concerned she wouldn't get her 'piece of quiet' time if Will didn't go to the party, so she made sure she got some when he went to bed. She is reading the second Malory Towers book and loving it. I love that she reads and loves books I read and loved. Another parent recently questioned the fact that Carys was mostly reading 'old fashioned' authors. I wasn't quick enough to reply that Horrid Henry and Diaries of a Wimpy Kid aren't the only contemporary books. Yes she has read Enid Blyton, Noel Streatfeild and Dodie Smith but she has also read almost the whole of Dick King Smith's back catalogue and is starting on Mr. Morpurgo too.
