Good riddance!
In recent months, a mob of starlings have bullied all our regular garden birds to the point where many of them went away. The woodpeckers have stuck around, as they can take on one or two starlings at one go but even they can't deal with about 50 all at once.
We took it upon ourselves to get several feeders that could only be used by small birds; this has proved very frustrating as starlings are pretty determined creatures as far as food is concerned!
Anyway, I think we've finally cracked it; the starlings seem to have flown to pastures new and gradually all our lovely birds are returning. The last few days, they have been flying round the garden in their little family groups as if they are overjoyed that the bullies have left.
We have missed them and are glad they're back again. Our persistence on the feeding station front has definitely paid off!
(Note: We did leave one place where the starlings could feed - they still need to eat at end of the day!!)
