Ruine da Guardaval

After a night of heavy snow, the sun made an appearance towards the end of the morning and out we tramped. Our destination was Guardaval which dates from 1172 and stands atop of a rocky outcrop commanding the Engadine valley and the wooden bridge spanning the River Inn. It would have presented a formidable obstacle to any invading army attempting to pass along the valley. I had wanted to visit the monument since we arrived in this area but had too many other places to visit. It was well worth the wait made more special by the beautiful snow.
