If you go down to the woods today...

...you'll find it full of kids and lovey dovey couples, none of whom will even spare you a glance, much less a hello. The evening crowd are a much more affable bunch, you know.

Spotted this on the way round, but I've no idea what it signifies. Is it a mile marker, in which case what's 8 miles in that direction? Was I 8/10 of a mile along the path, in which case why does it point away from the path? Or is it telling people that up there is where 8 of the bodies disposed of by a long forgotten serial killer are buried?
