Smashing Particles

Today we took a stunning train journey from Zurich to Geneva passing through Bern and Lausanne and enjoying stunning lake and mountain views. I love train travel!

Arriving in Geneva we made our way to CERN. The site is huge and looks like an industrial estate in Anytown with most of the actual science taking place underground or behind large concrete blocks in warehouses. The globe and sculpture give visitors that much needed 'science image' to snap. Although behind the colourful mural to the right is some real science in the form of the ATLAS detector which A works with. Now that they've found the Higgs Boson they're off in search of dark matter and dark energy....all a bit Big Bang Theory for me (we did see the 'Board Game Society' in the canteen...)
