Ramblings from Zambia....

Headgear.......

Am really tired tonight. Its hot these days as rain is coming and its very oppressive. I heard this morning that a container with humanitarian aid had arrived but it had gone to Ekwendeni (about a 30 minute drive from me). There were some boxes of materials for Early Childhood on the container so I had to go get them.

On the way I had to pass Mzuzu University and there was a minibus in front of me - he slowed down and I thought he was pulling in to stop but then a guy appeared at my window. He was a student and he was drunk and demanding money for me to pass. I realised then there was a road block and that students were demonstrating about something. I quickly went to drive off but the guy started banging the car and then others were throwing stones. I did a sharp left turn and went into the university and was told the students were demonstrating because the generator was not working and last night the electricity was off and they couldn't study. This is a common occurrence here!

Anyway I had to go out the back gate of the university and eventually reached Ekwendeni. What I assumed were a few boxes turned into a lot of boxes and I had to go back twice and a lorry assisted with the rest.

So am tired tonight! This is just a usual street scene of ladies with unusual head gear (mind you its usual here!!).
