Remembrance Sunday
Three hundred people congregated at the Stornoway War Memorial this afternoon, to remember the Fallen from the Island of Lewis in the First World War and conflicts since. Of the 26,000 people who lived in the island in 1911, some 6,200 joined up for war service during WW1. Of these, 1,300 lost their lives. And of these 1,300, 205 were lost in the sinking of HMY Iolaire on 1 January 1919, just over seven weeks after the Armistice.
We will remember them.
