Music At Heriot Watt
The John Archer Memorial Concert tonight was entitled Remembering the 11th Hour, the music representing the theme of war, reconciliation and peace.
Holst's Mars from the Planets Suite, Capriol Suite by Warlock (written pre-war), conductor Steve King's Rhynie Man, (inspired by an image of a warrior on a Pictish stone) and Elgar's Nimrod from the Enigma Variations, then more Holst, Jupiter this time, all orchestral pieces, took up the first half. After the interval the choir, soprano and baritone soloists performed Vaughan Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem, to great acclaim.
An enjoyable evening but also one for reflection.
