Reef Check pointy dive
As part of the science training with Coral Cay you go out on a series of "Pointy" dives with a member of the science staff. These help you to relate fish, invertebrates and substrates that you have learnt about to real world sightings. Here Jack is pointing to his dive slates showing that the specimen is hard coral - for two of our newest science trainees Tom and Helen. Helen is also the education officer.
I was helping out as safety diver (basically holding the surface bouy and finding good stuff to look at :-) ). A very relaxing pair of dives for the day.
More amusingly, in retrospect, the boat engine broke down today and the team had to wait for a tow for an hour in the middle of the ocean. All back safe and sound thankfully. They didn't miss much as with the compressor running and the bathroom upstairs being demolished the base camp was not a quiet place to be!
