Not just a track on the floor!
This is a clue to the brewing history of Nether Craigwell where our cottage is situated. A gentleman with an interest in the history of brewing around the Canongate area came to visit me today. He had some information and old labels and beermats from Gordon and Blair's brewery which was the last company to brew and bottle beer here. The groove in the (now) garage floor was evidence of where the beer barrels were filled before being sent off on drays to be delivered to pubs around the town.
I was able to show him the stones which mark the edge of the well which was the reason the brewery was situated here. There were 6 breweries in North Back of Canongate which is now Calton Road. A little bit of Edinburgh's industrial heritage. He also told me Edinburgh was known for the 3 B's. Beer, books and biscuits!
