Okarito boat shed

The Okarito boatshed is one of the first landmarks you see as you drive into town. It's no longer used as a boat shed, instead has an information sign hanging on the side. The surrounding wharf is used to fish (in season for salmon, sea run trout, or mullet or red cod).

We had a cruisey trip over with good coffee, an interesting time discussing how to re-train a cat out of psycho attacks, time beside the sea at Hokitika buying honey at Ross and hearing warnings not to turn our backs to the sea.

Ken and Karina have arranged our accommodation in houses in Okarito. We're assigned where to go and I'm delighted to find I have an upstairs penthouse like place. The view one way looks into bush and up into the Southern Alps peaks of Elie de Beaument and The Minarets, the other way out to the Tasman Sea and Australia lurking 1000's of km's away. There is a desk (should I decide to write my memoirs ;-), kitchenette and a wee lounge area. I'll definitel be back! (although I've told the others' it's awful and they wouldn't like it ;-)

The boys are downstairs. We've had a drink, dinner and headed out to enjoy the delicate and magical fading light.
