Sebastian
I went to meet my neighbor's 6 month old grandson, Sebastian, and his mother, who are visiting from New York. My anthropologist self went into full gear as I held this delightful baby, noting that he has all the characteristics we humans recognize as cute…round head, large eyes, button nose, chubby arms and legs and a soft body. There can be no doubt of the evolutionary success of these traits, as four beaming women vied for the privilege of holding him.
The theories of natural selection paled a bit as he grew tired and cranky and started to cry. He was quickly handed over to his mother and we took our leave.
It has been raining a lot today, for which we are very thankful, although OilMan was not best pleased when I mentioned that in the midst of the downpour, the sprinklers that he thought he had turned off were clearly not off. I sense a massive investigation into valves, wires and timers coming on. It's been a long time since I've heard the sound of rain on the roof at night.
We drove to Sebastopol to borrow a folding table for Thanksgiving. The countdown has begun….
