AKIMBO

I'm hoping to get some inspiration back tomorrow if I can sneak a half-day off to catch the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition at a nearby museum before it moves on after the weekend. Don't tell my editors that I won't be hard at work on those deadlines!

I was idly wondering about the origin of the word "akimbo" and find that it's in the middle of an etymological hornets' nest. Who knew? Or wanted to (apart from me)?
