MYSTERY REFLECTIONS.....
... at the TRAIN WORKS!!!!
Had a top Blip meet with Hobbs's Run and isbi today. Thirlmere is about an hours drive south of Penrith and being a week day and quite hot day we had the "show" virtually to ourselves.
We meandered around and enjoyed this expanse of train nostalga.
From their web site.....Since 1975 the historic town of Thirlmere in Sydney's southwest has been home to significant rail heritage collection, including over 100 rolling stock items, associated with the history of the railways in NSW.
The 5-hectare rail corridor site and much of the collection is owned by the state of New South Wales.
Trainworks is located in Thirlmere - approximately 90km from Sydney - and is one of the main features of the village. Thirlmere, like many towns, was born with the coming of the Great Southern Railway in 1863 to 1867, when a large temporary tent city grew up to house the railway workers. It was valued for its proximity to Thirlmere Lakes which provided water for the steam trains. The water was pumped to a siding at the nearby town of Couridjah.
The Thirlmere section of the Main Southern Railway was deviated in 1919 to a less steep alignment with easier grades, and the original line became the Picton Loop Line. Today, the Loop Line provides a link to the main line which enables heritage trains to operate beyond the local area and to run on a line clear of other working trains.
From the many shots taken I liked this one taken through the window of the "Governors carriage" showing part of the dining area but with the reflection giving quite and interesting effect!
After the full day I was then off to attend and support a Darts night fundraiser for the Cancer Councill, our Prostate support group team played a team of local celebrities, unfortunately we handed the trophy won last year back to them!! Oh well, but a top night and a nice amount of money raised for cancer research.
Enjoy, and have a look in LARGE to see the "finery" used!!!
... and if interested have put some more pics on Flickr.
... sorry so far behind even missed "derelict Thursday"...
