When I was a wee girl Advent calendars were simple things made of card and glitter which counted down to Christmas with pictures of a snowflake, a candle, a Christmas tree and on the big day either a star, Jesus or (if it was a bit 'modern') Santa.
We also had an Advent candle some years.

Then came the chocolate variety - progress in the eyes of many.

Today Advent calendars are mega big business and it's possible to count down to Christmas with almost everything. Here you can see one of the many tea Advent calendars available! Now, I'm a fan of tea, but really?
