Jew's Ear Fungus

I came across these as I cleared a blockage in the stream in our little wood. They are particularly common on elder trees and are so called because Judas Iscariot was said to have been hung on an elder tree!
These are edible, but I think I will give them a miss, they felt very gelatinous!
