Travelling in style....

In the limousine ahead is the President and Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I'm in limousine 2. And yes, that is our police outrider. And yes, there were policemen holding up the traffic at every intersection. It is a very strange experience to travel five miles across a city and hardly drop below 50 mph

It's a reminder of how important this kind of visit is to the people of Sudan. We are very grateful.

A friend of mine knowing I was going to Khartoum advised "avoid drawing attention to yourself". I fear that ship has already sailed!
