Long Slow Distance

Bargee's rest

Friend Michael and I visited the Snowdrop Inn this evening, one of Lewes' recently revived gems, tucked away at the far end of the town.

The new owners have decorated the interior after the fashion of narrowboat (hand-painted panels, rough wood plank walls, and a wonderful curved ceiling) in keeping with its former life as a bargeman's hostelry: the pub, once a famous Lewes establishment) is a stone's throw from the River Ouse.

The food was good and the atmosphere warm and friendly, and when the musicians of the evening began just after 9pm the scene was set for an enjoyable evening of traditional music with guitar, violin and lady singer. So relaxing, and the volume was not so intrusive so as to quash conversation.

It was very hard to prise ourselves away from the delicious Harveys Old Ale, but alas we did, but not before I blipped a sample or two of this for your discerning eyes...
