For Carrie
Arbor Day is a holiday celebrated in the spring. One of the traditions in neighborhood schools is to give little tree seedlings to the children in school or at environmental programs. The evergreen tree in the middle of this picture is one of those seedlings. Our oldest granddaughter carried it home from school when she was probably about six (I'll have to ask her if she remembers what grade she was in at the time), and it was probably 6-7 inches tall. She wanted to plant it in our back yard in the shade of some very tall oak and hickory trees. Carrie grew up and moved away, but as you can see, the tree is still there and still growing, a reminder of the little girl who carried it home. An almost identical evergreen, carried home by her younger brother (our oldest grandson and the one whose wedding picture I posted last month), is growing in the other corner of the yard. If you've lived in your house for a long time, look around and count the memories. I hope you find many that make you smile.
