Assume the position

When we moved into our first apartment together, we were given the option to keep a few items. Among those items was a futon. Futons are interesting in that you can never date them so we assumed this one was somewhere between 2 and 50 years old.

Enthused that we could reduce our arsenal of home goods by one bulky item, we kept the futon and used it as the crowning centerpiece of our apartment.

Treating it as a couch with the back kept propped up, we found it uncomfortable and subsequently bought a twin-sized mattress topper and a futon cover to resolve this.

Another month of rigorous comfort-testing led us one day to realize that Megan mostly enjoys the futon with the back down as a bed.

Long story short, we've kept it this way. Everyday when I get home late, I can always count on Meg to be propped with her back against the window 'assuming the position'. It's the little things you grow to love.
