A view of Salford..
Salford is so often seen as the "younger brother" of Manchester but it has many things Manchester does not have such as half price parking at the weekends! Salford and Manchester are separated by a narrow strip of water known as the River Irwell and on this river almost 200 years ago tragedy struck as can be seen by this account on the metal plaque I blipped today. It is positioned in the exact centre of the bridge - the actual border between Salford and Manchester. Picture number two is of Joseph Brotherton who was Salford's first Member of Parliament - more on Joseph Brotherton here.. A much more famous son of Salford of course is L. S. Lowry the painter, famous for his matchstick people. He is remembered by this hotel on the banks of the River Irwell which is named after him. And finally the can of Red Bull.. That was just for fun - I couldn't help thinking that the person who had drunk the Red Bull then left it on a step must have had wings and flown away! See here if you think the drink does actually give you wings!
