The Three Molehills Race 2014

For the 3rd year in a row, the Hopping Houblons entered the Three Molehills. This is a slightky bonkers event, starting and finishing at Denbies Vineyard in Dorking. It can be run as a relay or, if you fancy 3 hills, as an individual.

We were missing one team member from the previous 2 years - he had a better offer of a weekend in ? Brussels, ? Bruges, can't remember which. Our friend Brian, having very little idea of what he was letting himself in for, agreed to join the team.

The weather was horrible, it had been raining hard for hours and was still raining. As you run out of Denbies you have to go under a railway bridge - the huge puddle there meant that everybody had properly soaked feet after about 300m. On the 6 mile leg I ran there was a long downhill where the most solid footing involved running in the small steam that had formed in the middle of the path. There were plenty of places with puddles above the ankles.

Anyway, it was very good fun, and the marshals all deserved medals - they were wetter and colder than we were.

Without this race, I expect we'd have stayed in the house all day. The feeling if satisfaction was pretty high.
