The Three Graces
Julie MacDonald
This sculpture, cut from a seven ton block of Indiana limestone, symbolizes the openness of the YMCA to all races, religions and ethnic backgrounds. Depicting women from Asia, Africa and Europe, "The Three Graces"-- Love, Joy, Revelry--is one of the few public sculptural portraits of minority women in Los Angeles. Morgan Adams, Jr. acquired the work from Julie MacDonald, who was both the artist and his sister. In 1996, he donated "The Three Graces" to the YMCA and picked the site where it was installed.
